About Dr George Evetts

Dr George Evetts

I am a consultant in Anaesthesia & Perioperative medicine at Hampshire Hospitals NHS FoundationTrust, where I specialise in Anaesthesia and the pre-assessment & optimisation of patients for surgery. I work closely with other medical specialties to investigate and stabilise patient conditions to ensure safety whilst undergoing surgery and to optimise outcome.  Combining this with work as an Intensive Care Consultant has given me extensive knowledge of diagnosis, investigation and management of most medical conditions.

Previously, I served for 20 years in the Royal Air Force as a Medical Officer, and a Defence Consultant in Intensive Care & Anaesthesia, where my main role was as medical aircrew for the aeromedical evacuation of sick and injured personnel; this has given me a deep understanding of the affects of flight on health and disease, and the  demands placed on pilots and aircrew in the aviation environment. I have deployed on Operations around the world including Afghanistan, Mali, Carribbean (Hurricane Irma Humanitarian), and the Kabul Evacuation.

In 2015 I worked in Australia for Queensland CareFlight and the Royal Flying Doctors Service, providing retrieval medical care aboard fixed wing and rotary platforms.

Towards the end of my military career I was appointed RAF Consultant Advisor in Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Medicine, acting as advisor to the Defence Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Specialty on Aviation matters and Specialist Advisor to Head of RAF Medical Services with regard to all aspects of the specialties, including training, recruitment, and operational capabilities.

During my medical training, I completed a BSc in Aerospace Physiology, with a prize winning research dissertation studying training methods used for hypoxia familiarisation in the military.

I have previously been involved in clinical research as local site investigator for several international trials, and as clinical collaborator for COVID scientific research, publishing several scientific papaers. I have also co-authored several book chapters, on traumatic brain injury, trauma radiology, and retrieval and transfer medcine.

I maintain continuous personal development in my Anaesthesia and Aviation Medical Examiner practice.
